Grand List Update — 02/15/11

February 15, 2011

-Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage
-Super Mario Bros. 2
-Trauma Team (Wii)
-Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

2 Much needed classics are finally added to the library and my first Trauma series game. The first title for the DS was pretty amazing if I recall correctly so hopefully this Wii iteration is just as good. I also repurchased Spyro 2 for the original Playstation which was, without a doubt, my favorite game for that system.

Upgrades For Everyone!

February 12, 2011

First off, I’m indifferent to announce that Seafoam Islands now has twitter account that you can follow here or you can look at the Twitter feed on the right sidebar.

Also, I’ve been working on upgrading The Grand List which has turned out to be an incredibly time consuming task. You can see the upgraded list(s) by scrolling all the way to the bottom of The Grand List and clicking on any of the consoles. It’s a little sloppy but it’s just tentative.

The Problem With My Blog…

February 8, 2011

This is my blog though you wouldn’t be able to tell by reading the few articles I write. Both the general lack of articles as well as the quality I put forth in writing them make this fact evident.

My review of Kid Icarus comes to mind above all others. I wrote that when the goal of the Weekly Review was to be a very short but precise summary of my feelings towards a game.

Let me be blunt — I hated writing that review and it shows. Instead of describing any pertinent gameplay elements I merely mentioned that it was “Nintendo hard”. The entire review feels like 3 paragraphs of filler that I wrote more out of obligation to the blog than genuine interest in video games. I don’t disagree with the score I gave Kid Icarus, just the manner in which I wrote the review.

I followed Kid Icarus with a review of “You’re in the Movies” at the behest of a friend. This review has been the most enjoyable to write despite being one of the worst games I’ve played in some time. The review felt more personal as I was more direct with own disdain toward many of its shortcomings, which resulted in a review that was not as dry and witless as the one before it.

I can only hope that as I continue this blog I inject more charisma into my reviews and articles lest I fail to find inspiration in my own writing and quit the whole thing outright.

Grand List Update — 02/08/11

February 8, 2011

-Chrono Cross (PS1)
-Indigo Prophecy (Xbox)

I remember playing Indigo Prophecy (which was called “Fahrenheit” everywhere else but the US) on a modded Xbox and thought it was interesting enough to warrant a purchase.

Chrono Cross is the follow up to the critically acclaimed Chrono Trigger for the SNES. This PS1 sequel is just as highly regarded as its predecessor.

Grand List Update — 02/05/11

February 5, 2011

-Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (GCN)
-Star Wars Rogue Squadron III Rebel Strike (GCN)

The Grand Library

February 2, 2011

I had my camera downstairs taking pictures of the snow in the window wells and I figured I’d take a picture of all my games. If you look carefully you’ll see that one game is out of place.

Goldeneye’s Dual Analog Control

January 24, 2011

I just tried out the two controller control scheme for Goldeneye for the N64. Plugging two controllers in gives you two analog sticks not unlike modern FPS games. The results were pretty awful.

Grand List Update — 01/23/11

January 23, 2011

Hopefully this massive Grand List Update makes up for the last two lack luster ones.

-Blast Corps (N64)
-F-Zero X (N64)
-Ghosts ‘N Goblins (NES)
-Superman 64 (N64)
-Tetrisphere (N64)
-Wipeout 64 (N64)
